When I promised to show you all Local Love and an insider’s guide to the Outer Banks, there are some secrets I hesitate to share because they are SO GOOD, what if it means it diminishes the appeal for locals? Luckily, I love y’all and I want everyone to fall in love with the magical strip of sand as much as my family and I have. Which means that this next hidden treasure is exactly that: hidden! Moreover, I think everyone who visits needs to take their family and discover the magic of SeaGreen Gallery.
Located on the beach road in Nags Head, Sea Green gallery is a feast for the eyes before you even set foot inside the store- there are glass bottles and tiny trinkets embedded into the stone walls, a fountain lined with cooper pennies and a trough filled with brightly colored goldfish. Walk underneath the stringer of buoys and into the gallery and your eyes explode with heart emojis with all there is to see. The gallery features works of a variety of local artists from photography to reclaimed wood pieces, and their specialty: vintage pieces re-imagined to give them new life. The mother and son owners have created a space where the impossible becomes reality both in the art pieces that Will creates himself as well as the other true gem: the outdoor garden.
Tucked in the back of the store, a door leads into a feast for your senses with a magical garden filled with bathtub fountains powered by boat motors, concrete waves, driftwood barrels, turtles basking on monster trucks, bunnies hopping from old window enclosures to fresh lettuce growing next to crystal flowers. It is a magical wonderland that you can get lost in to the delights of your children shrieking with every small discovery. Make no mistake that it’s not a fixed experience either as most of the pieces are for sale and the owners are adding more inventory daily. You never know exactly what you will find which makes this a MUST do on your next trip.
To the delight of my northern beach vacationing friends, Sea Green is opening another location in Duck this spring that means even more enchanting space to explore and a chance to bring a piece of the charm home with you.
